8,037 Without Power in Hauppauge Wednesday

LIPA restores power to more than 1,000 in Hauppauge since Tuesday afternoon.

 

Long Island Power Authority has started restoring some electricity to Hauppauge homes and businesses. 

LIPA reports that 8,037 in Hauppauge are still without power after Hurricane Sandy as of 8 a.m. Wednesday, down from 9,350 at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The utility company has restored approximately 14 percent of the outages in the Hauppauge area.

LIPA is still assessing the damage to its grid, which was widespread across Long Island. The power authority lists 51,474 in the Town of Smithtown remain without power.  

The outages in Suffolk County have dropped slightly to 412,290 as of 8 a.m. There were 460,419 outages for the 6 p.m. Tuesday.
