#88 - Pay Your Respects at the Armed Forces Plaza

Remember the wars fought and soldiers who died to preserve the United State's freedom.

It can be easy to forget the true meaning of the Fourth of July somewhere between the barbecues, parades and fireworks.

Also known as Independence Day, we commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 , declaring the United States was free of British rule.

Since then, many wars have been fought and soldiers have given their lives in services to the United States to preserve our freedoms, from World Wars I and II to the war against terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Take a moment to honor and pay respect to those who have preserved our freedoms by visiting the Armed Forces Plaza off Veterans Highway in front of the H. Lee Dennison Building complex.

The Armed Forces Plaza consists of a series of monuments, each dedicated to specific war. Some of the monuments are inscribed with the battles fought during each war, while others list the names of those killed in battle or missing in action.

Visitors can feel free to leave tokens of their respect, such as flowers or ribbons, at the monuments.
