Angela's House to host Fishing for Funds

Nonprofit organization for severely disabled children schedules annual fundraiser for July 26.

Angela’s House is planning its fifth annual “Fishing for Funds” sunset fishing tour fundraiser for July 26.

Angela’s House, a Hauppauge-based nonprofit that helps children with special health care needs due to chronic or life-threatening illness, is chartering a four-hour fishing trip at Fishtale Fishing leaving from Captree State Park.

“The fishing trip is a small but fun fundraiser we’ve been doing for a few years now,” said Bob Policastro, the organization’s founder. “It started when one of the families I’ve worked with for years stepped forward. The father owns a boat, and he offered to let us use the boat for a fundraiser.”

Tickets cost $50 per person. Attendees will receive a rod/reel, bait, hooks, sinkers and other equipment required to fish.

“What’s wild is the fishing on Long Island has picked up a lot better than people think. We’ve managed to have some really amazing days when we’ve gone on our fishing trip,” Policastro said.

The founder said last year’s attendees caught more than 100 fish before sailing in during sunset. The nonprofit will offer a prize the person who catches the largest fish.

In 2010, Angela’s House raised roughly $3,000 on the chartered fishing trip that went towards medical equipment and services for children. Policastro said with the help of sponsors, the organization hopes to raise $5,000 in 2011.

Those interested can register via email to AHBobp@aol.com or fill out the registration form it to: Angela’s House, P.O. Box 5052, Hauppauge, NY 11788. Registration is open through July 19 or when the boat is filled to capacity.
