Barron's Launches Regents Review Apps

Hauppauge-based publisher releases iPhone, iPad and iPod touch applications for students.

Students can study for their Regents exams on their iPhones with a new series of apps launched by Hauppauge-based publisher

“Everyone’s familiar with the little red Barron's books,” said Bob O’Sullivan, the publisher of the test prep division for Barron’s. “In those books, you take a regents test, then there is a chart and you self-grade your test. In this new interactive technology, you click on your answer, it brings you to the next question then at the end it estimates a score for you.”

Barron’s has launched three apps for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Students can go to iTunes to get the June 2009 Biology Regents, June 2009 Global History Regents or the June 2010 Integrated Algebra Regents. It’s only $2.99 per test.

“It’s a fun way to prepare for the Regents exam,” O’Sullivan said.

This is a pilot program. In the coming months, Barron’s will be adding additional review tests to the list.

“We have gotten a very good response to the program,” O’Sullivan said. “You can take the test on the bus, or train or sitting on your couch.

Barron's Educational Series has published test preparation books and software for 70 years. It has test prep books for SATs, ACTs, GREs, GMAT, LSATs, all AP exams and the Regents.

“We wanted to explore new formats and new delivery for our content,” O’Sullivan said. “Today’s students are all about electronics. We wanted to extend our brand.”

“We’re excited about it. It’s a new venture for us,” O’Sullivan cadded. “I think students will respond to it well.”
