Evening Train Restored to Port Jeff; Morning Ronkonkoma Routes Added

After being cut in 2010, a weekday train stopping in Smithtown around 6:40 p.m. will be restored, according to the MTA.

After a fare hike recently went into effect on the Port Jefferson branch of the Long Island Rail Road – as well as many others – the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced recently that an evening eastbound line would be restored.

The 5:12 p.m. weekday train from Hunterspoint Avenue to Port Jefferson will be back on the schedule, according to the MTA, after it was cut in 2010 among a slate of other cuts systemwide.

The train will stop in Smithtown at 6:37 p.m. and St. James at 6:43 p.m. before arriving in Port Jefferson at 7 p.m.

Ronkonkoma branch trains are being added as well, according to the MTA, between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon. Details can be found on the LIRR website.

Added lines heading out to Montauk, Huntington and Long Beach were restored as well. All restorations take affect Monday.

New fares went into affect on Friday, with average tickets increasing between 8.2 and 9.3 percent, depending on the distance traveled.
