United Auto Care, Route 347 and 111 [Empty in Hauppauge]

The boarded up auto shop is vacant despite its prime location on intersection with heavy traffic.

Hauppauge has a number of longtime businesses that are a vital part of the local community. Yet, its vibrancy is damaged by a few buildings that remain empty and boarded up despite their prime locations.

For example, there's the former United Auto Care building on the Route 347/Route 111 intersection at the center of Hauppauge. It's boarded up, vacant and even the bright orange signs announcing its up for rent have begun to fall apart.

Despite the rental signs, the building it is not currently listed with the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island.

The former United Auto Care building has drawn some interest from local businessmen in Hauppauge, who told Patch they had thought about leasing the property. However, a few have mentioned there are too many issues with customer traffic versus the already busy intersection.

The across the street does thriving business, but does not have its own mechanic shop.
