We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

 Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

Where/When: On Thursday, 4:15 p.m. at the Hauppauge Public Library.
Why Go:  Let your child go wild with their creative side with arts and crafts. This keeps the mess of glitter, glue, clay and more out of the house.  The program is aimed for children in kindergarten through second grade.
Pricing: It's free.



Where/When: On Thursday at Matt Guiliano’s Play Like A Pro at 1745 Expressway Drive North from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Why Go: Your child loves cheering on the Mets or Yankees and begs to play wiffleball in the backyard. Signing up introduces them to an opportunity to participate in organized team sports.
Pricing: Ranges from $65 to $125 depending upon a child’s age and division.

 

Where/When:  The program starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown.
Why Go: It’s a fun take on Ground Hogs Day as children and their parents are invited to join the hunt for Sweetbriar Sam, a groundhog/woodchuck. Activities also include arts and crafts and a lesson on winter animal activity.
Pricing: $5 per person


Where/When: It’s at the Nissequogue River State Park in nearby Kings Park, starting at 2 p.m.
Why Go: It’s a chance for children to run around outside in the snow while learning about animal’s winter habits.
Pricing: $ adult, $3 per child and a $8 parking fee

 

When/Where: Hauppauge Public Library on Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
Why Go: It’s a chance to teach older children in grades 6-12 about giving back to their community by reading a book with younger students.
Pricing: Free, it can't get much better.
