Hauppauge Contractors Pledge $1,000 to Make-A-Wish for 1,000 Facebook 'Likes'

Irwin Contracting pledges to donate $1,000 to Make-A-Wish of Suffolk County if the businesses can make 1,000 new Facebook 'likes' by the end of the HIA trade show.

A Hauppauge contracting firm is looking to help Make-a-Wish bring a child's dream to life.

will donate $1,000 to Make-A-Wish if their two Facebook pages combined can get more than 1,000 'likes' by the end of the Hauppauge Industrial Association's Long Island Business Trade Show and Conference at 4 p.m.

Joanne McGiveron, director of community relations for the Make-A-Wish of Suffolk County, said she approached Irwin Contracting about pledging the interactive donation as part of its marketing at the HIA trade show.

"I approached them to raise awareness of our Facebook page and our presence at the trade show, as we haven't exhibited here before," Joanne McGiveron.

Krista Romanchek, a spokeswoman for Irwin Contracting, said the Hauppauge business had no hesitation about pledging $1,000 donation.

"We have probably been donating to Make-A-Wish for 10 year. Our founder John Irwin is a big fan, "Romanchek said.

Irwin Contracting launched its Facebook page within the last month as part of the company's new marketing campaign.

"I think it's a strong marketing tool. You have a lot of exposure, and for a contracting firm like us, we can post pictures of our work," Romanchek said.

Make-A-Wish of Suffolk County is hoping its Facebook page will reach 1,000 'likes,' according to McGiveron, while Irwin Contracting is hoping to attract 500 new"likes."

McGiveron said the donation would be used towards the next local child's dream that Make-A-Wish fulfill.
