Hauppauge Man Nabbed in Nationwide Immigration Sting

Ian Kirt Kuar, previously convicted of second degree manslaughter and drug sales, one of 2,901 facing deportation.

A Hauppauge man and native of Trinidad and Tobago was one of nearly 3,000 illegal immigrants arrested this past week and will face deportation after a nationwide immigration sting hit all 50 states, plus four U.S. territories.

Ian Kirt Kuar, 52, was picked up as part of a seven-day 'cross check' organized by the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, the investigative federal agency in charge of border patrol, customs, and immigration.

All 2,901 individuals arrested had prior criminal convictions. More than 1,600 of them had previously been convicted of a felony charge such as manslaughter, attempted murder, or kidnapping.

Nearly 700 had been ordered to leave the country before, and 386 of the arrested individuals had been removed from the United States in the past.

"The results of this targeted enforcement operation underscore ICE's ongoing commitment and focus on the arrest and removal of convicted criminal aliens and those that game our nation's immigration system," said ICE Director John Morton.

Kirt Kuar, according to federal officials, was convicted in 1975 of second degree manslaughter and nearly 20 years later for fifth degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Information on all the individuals arrested was not made available. A call to the New York ICE office was not immediately returned.

Newsday reported that 10 illegal immigrants in Suffolk County were picked up in the sting, as were 15 in Nassau.
