Hauppauge Man Wins $15,491 In Take 5

A Hauppauge man's "little bit of luck" paid off in time for the holiday season. 

New York State Lottery announced Hauppauge resident Grzegorz Krawiel won a $15,491 in the Dec. 10 Take 5 drawing. Krawiel purchased the ticket at Walbaum's at 1261 Nesconset Highway in Stony Brook, according to a press statement. 

The odds of winning New York State's Daily Take 5 jackpot by matching 5 out of 5 numbers, 1 to 39, correctly is approximately 1-in-575,757, according to the state lottery's website

The game's motto of " it just takes a little bit of luck" comes from odds of matching 2 of the 5 numbers, approximately 1 in 9, which qualifies the purchaser for one free quick pick Take 5 ticket. 

Winners can cash in winning lottery tickets for prizes up to $600 in value at any of the state's 16,000 authorized lottery dealers. Prizes of more than $600 must be claimed at one of the Lottery's seven Customer Service Centers across the state, the nearest located in Garden City, or one of the Lottery's eight gaming facilites including Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway.

The New York Lottery is North America's largest and  one of the most profitable, according to the news release, making more than $39.3 billion in educational support statewide over the past 40 years. The Lottery contributed more than $2.67 billion during the 2009-2010 school year in state funding, more than 12 percent of the total.
