Islandia Sanitation Company Fined in Deadly Accident

Jet Sanitation Services to pay $5,000 after admitting negligent assault in 2009 fatal accident.

Suffolk County judges have ordered an Islandia-based sanitation firm to pay $5,000 in fines after admitting to being criminally negligent in a 2009 accident that killed a woman.

Long Island Press reports Suffolk County district attorney's office said Jet Sanitation Services Corp. admitted to criminal negligent assault charges to settle 12 charges pending against the company. In 2009, one of Jet Sanitation's trash trucks tipped over while making a turn, killing a woman in East Northport in 2009.

The truck driver, Robert Moore, 51, of Ridge, was placed on three years probation. Prosecutors in the case said Moore has warned his company that the vehicle was having break problems before the crash.
