Local Organization Distributes Grocery Gift Cards to Help Sandy Victims

Island Harvest receives second donation from Robin Hood foundation, distributes gift card to those affected by Sandy.

 

Families impacted by Hurricane Sandy were the recipients of gift cards distributed by Island Harvest thanks to a grant from the Robin Hood Foundation.

Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization, recently received a $25,000 grant from the Robin Hood Foundation to assist Long Island families still struggling in the wake of the devastation caused by hurricane Sandy. Proceeds from the grant were used to purchase $25 gifts cards from Stop & Shop supermarkets, which in turn were distributed to families impacted by the storm.

Earlier this month Island Harvest received $200,000 from the Robin Hood Foundation which helped fund meals for first responders and supplemental food, personal care items and cleaning supplies for those affected by late October’s super storm. 

“We are exceptionally grateful to the Robin Hood Foundation and all its supporters for stepping up and offering much needed aid to thousands of people on Long Island and throughout the tri-state area whose lives were upended by the fury of hurricane Sandy,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO, Island Harvest.
