Man from Islandia Paint Company Slips from Throgs Neck Bridge

The search is still ongoing for a man who slipped from scaffolding while working on the Throgs Neck Bridge Friday morning.

The contract worker who fell off the Throgs Neck Bridge into the East River Friday morning is employed by an Islandia-based paint company. 

Newsday reports the NYPD harbor units and the U.S. Coast Guard are still searching for an employee of  Islandia-based Nuco Painting Corp. who fell into the East River at approximately 8:12 a.m Friday. Nuco Painting was sub-contracted by El Sol Contracting & Construction of Maspeth, Queens for bridge work and repairs. 

The missing man was standing on a platform with 15 crew members near the midspan of the Throgs Neck Bridge when he slipped and fell, MTA spokeswoman Judie Glave told Newsday.

Newsday reports the distance between the road deck of the bridge and water is 142 height at high tide. A fall from the bridge deck would still be more than 100 feet. 

Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the worker.
