Nesconset Honors 9/11 Victims [VIDEO]

Nesconset Chamber of Commerce holds a reading of the names of those killed in 9/11 or afterwards during Nesconset Day.

The Nesconset Chamber of Commerce and Smithtown Town officials gathered at the Nesconset Gazebo Sunday morning to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks and those who have died afterwards.

Mark Little, Nesconset Fire Department chaplain, read an invocation as Leeanna Rutigliano, 10, a student at Longwood Middle School sang the national anthem.

Speakers included Legis. John Kennedy Jr., R-Nesconset, Smithtown Town Supervisor Patrick Vecchio and Smithtown Councilmen Ed Wehrheim.

The names of 9/11 victims from Nesconset, Hauppauge, Smithtown and other nearby towns were read by Smithtown council members and Kennedy. Firefighters solemnly rang a bell after each name, to recognize the individuals and lives lost. Residents were then welcome to come up and add the names of any loved ones who died as result of 9/11.
