Nesconset Triangle to Get New Look

Nesconset Chamber and Legis. John Kennedy begin beautification project on corner of Smithtown Boulevard and Terry Road.

The Nesconset Chamber of Commerce with the help of Legis. John Kennedy, R-Nesconset, have kicked off the start of a project aimed at beautifying the Nesconset triangle.

A plan is underway to turn the triangle of land at the corner of Smithtown Boulevard and Terry Road into a decorated green. The project is designed to turn the island into a future entryway into the Nesconset community, according to Kennedy.

Suffolk County Water Authority installed a connection to a nearby water main on Terry Road to pump water into sprinklers for the future irrigation of the green on June 9. The SCWA agreed to wave the fee for tapping into the water main on Terry Road after Suffolk County Department of Public Works agreed to restore the roadway.

In addition, the Town of Smithtown will grade the land and provide the necessary top soil. The Nesconset Chamber of Commerce, with Mazelis Landscape Contracting and Borella Nursey of Nesconset, have offered to provide plants to decorating the land. Long Island Power Authority will be installing an electrical source for lighting and a dusk-to-dusk fixture on a nearby utility pole.

Kennedy originally said his goal was to have the island completed by the first concert in the Nesconset Summer Concert series, a series of five local concerts beginning on July 5. The completion date has since been pushed back due to additional work, according to Joe Darrow, a spokesman for Kennedy.
