New chairman first joined the iconic organization in the 1960s.

Hauppauge's Boy Scouts troops have a new top scout in charge.

James Montalto, of Northport, was sworn in as the new district chair of the Boy Scouts' Matinecock District, an area that covers the western part of the Town of Smithtown and Town of Huntington, at the organization's March meeting.

Montalto has achieved the rank of Life Scout within the Boy Scouts of America, having first joined the scouts in the 1960s. His work was recognized with the Matinecock's Good Deed Award in 2006.
