Home Littered with Junk Has Residents Crying Foul
Residents on Heather Drive in Kings Park are asking the Town of Smithtown to act on what they call a junk yard being run from a private home on their block, creating unsightly and unsanitary conditions.
New Commissioner for Smithtown Fire Dept.; St. James Incumbent Wins
Challenger Thomas Duckham the fire commissioner position for the Smithtown Fire Department from incumbent Joseph Gardella on Tuesday by a margin of 25 votes. Duckham received 252 votes to Gardella's 227.
In the St. James Fire District vote, Larry Montrose retained his fire commissioner seat by defeating challenger Glen Itzkowitz. Montrose received 201 votes to Itzkowitz's 86.
Former Patient Gives Back to Hospital that Saved Her Life
A team of doctors at Stony Brook University Hospital saved her life not once, not twice, but six times – and now, Carin Navratil has found a way to give back to the hospital that saved her life. The Farmingville resident was 22 years old when she suffered what doctors believed was at least one blood clot that had gotten into her lungs, causing her to lose lung and heart function.
“I am so grateful to all the staff who saved my life and took such great care of me,” Navratil said. “I wanted to give back to Stony Brook, because without their care and support, I wouldn’t be here.”
