Smithtown:
The Citizens Advisory Committee of the Smithtown school district voted 17 to 4 in favor of closing Nesconset Elementary School. The committee's recommendation will be presented to the Board of Education no later than Jan. 31.  

Kings Park: Kings Park Teen Killed in Crash
Nicholas Hein, 17, of Kings Park, was killed on Friday night when his dirt bike was hit by a car on Cedar Street near Old Northport Road.

Commack: Town Demand Inn Owners Clean Up Property
The Town of Smithtown's Planning Board ordered the owners of the Commack Inn to remove all debris from the property before a zoning change will be approved, which would allow them to expand the inn. 

Northport:
Four people were injured – three of them burned – after a fire erupted at a Townline Road home early on Jan. 4. 

Three Village:
Brookhaven Town officials are taking the owner of an illegal rooming house at 150 Christian Ave. in Stony Brook back to court for failure to comply with conditional discharges of multiple housing code violations.
