County Dedicates Portion of Nicolls Road for Fallen Firefighter
The portion of Nicolls Road between Fox Hunt Road and Route 347 will now be known as "Lt. Joseph DiBernardo Memorial Road," and was dedicated at a ceremony on Monday led by Suffolk Legis. Kara Hahn. Hahn, D-Setauket, introduced a measure in the county legislature over the summer to rename a 1.27-mile stretch of the road in honor of Joseph "Joey D" DiBernardo Jr., a FDNY lieutenant and former Setauket Fire Department volunteer who died last November from an accidental medication overdose.

Dam Breach at Sunken Meadow Re-routes Park Users
A project slated for the dam at Sunken Meadow State Park may need to be pushed along a little faster due to some damage from Superstorm Sandy.
The man–made dam, located by field three of the park, was breached after Sandy pounced on Long Island in late October. Grant monies from the Long Island Sound Futures Fund were slated before the storm to restore tidal flow. The first step in the project was to remove the dam.
