The Gardens of Remembrance is a memorial built to honor those Suffolk County residents who were killed in the 9/11 attacks at the Armed Forces Plaza in front of the H. Lee Dennison building.
Each glass panels in the wall has the name, age, profession and hometown of the victim. Within these glass walls grows a garden, largely untouched and untrimmed, that the memorial's designed made to be symbolic of lives loss, how those loved ones can no longer be held or touched.
Families of the 9/11 victims visiting the memorial are welcome to leave flowers, American flags and other gifts for their departed loved ones.
Suffolk County will hold a sunset ceremony for the families of 9/11 victims and survivors at 6 p.m. Thursday in the north parking lot of the H. Lee Dennison building at 100 Veterans Highway, Hauppauge.
