PHOTOS: Marines Storm Island Harvest with Turkeys

U.S. troops deliver 1,700 turkeys donated by Stop & Shop to Island Harvest, Long Island Cares in Hauppauge.

U.S. Marines stormed into Island Harvest's Hauppauge warehouse on Thursday morning to make sure that Long Island families have a Thanksgiving meal next week.

Marines unloaded 1,700 frozen turkeys donated by Shop & Stop to Island Harvest and Long Island Cares in Hauppauge. These turkeys will be sent to food pantries across Suffolk and Nassau counties, paired with food baskets to create holiday meals for needy families.

There are approximately 320,000 people on Long Island are affected by hunger and food insecurity, including 118,500 children, according to Long Island Cares.
