UPDATE: Power Slowly Beginning to Return to Hauppauge
LIPA has restored electricity to roughly one-third of customers by Monday night, yet thousands still lingering in the dark.
Hauppauge residents are slowly but surely starting to see power return as LIPA crews and contractors could be spotted in local neighborhoods on Monday night.
According to LIPA's Power Outage maps, 2,193 customers out of 8,892 in Hauppauge are still without power 7 p.m Tuesday. That number is significantly decreased from the 3,991 customers who were left in the dark since Hurricane Irene.
Most of Hauppauge's residential area businesses were open for business on Monday, with most receiving electricity by mid-day Monday afternoon. Residents gathered at local hotspots including Branchinelli's and Mama Sburro's, who only received electricity back late Monday afernoon, to grab a hot dinner.

The full extent of power outages in Hauppauge's industrial park is unknown.
A fallen tree on Blydenburgh Road still closed the street as of Tuesday morning, live wires tangled through the tree's branches. A snapped utility power left electricity wires dangling along Townline Road through Monday night.

As of Tuesday morning, 270,264 customers were still left without power, marking LIPA's largest power outages in 26 years.
The , but warned outages could linger into the weekend and next week in small isolated pockets.
Visit LIPA Storm Center's Outage Map to visually see a color-coded map of areas on Long Island without power, and receive information on the lingering outages. The outage map is updated twice a day at 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., according to LIPA's website, so information may lag behind the work completed by roadway crews.
