Question: Do You Walk, Bike or Drive?

What's your favorite mode of transportation and will the Route 347 improvements change that?

Hauppauge residents have dealt with lane closures and traffic due to Route 347 improvement project for more than a year now. The question lingers is what kind of impact it will have on their choice of transportation.

As part of the Route 347 improvement project, New York State Department of Transportation is putting in a bike and pedestrian lane on the south side of Route 347. The lane will be blocked off from the six-lane highway, and is designed to promote more eco-friendly modes of transportation such as walking or biking.

Construction workers could be seen working, in part, on this element of the project this week. Workers were clearing trees and the space for an additional lane along the front of the Shoprite shopping center.
