Smithtown residents on Saturday woke up to some of the highest snowfall totals in region, as a brutal blizzard that created white-out conditions much of Friday, left the area under more than two feet of snow.
St. James seemed to get the worst, with the National Weather Service reporting 27.5 inches of snow on the ground. And while the weather service did not list Hauppauge totals, nearby Smithtown saw 25 inches of snow. However, the windy nature of the storm has left snow drifts that may tower over 3 feet.
According to the weather service, the area will remain in a blizzard watch until noon, though the storm was clearly winding down across the region Saturday morning.
