View Finder: First Glimpse of the New Nesconset Library

The Smithtown Special Library Districts has transformed the Nesconset armory into a modern library to serve its patrons.

The new Nesconset branch of the Smithtown Special Library District opened at 10 a.m. on Thursday to a line of patrons eager to take a first look inside.

The new building transforms the former Nesconset armory, which closed in 1991, into a modern library designed to service Town of Smithtown residents. The former main storage area now acts as the main adult section of the library, a wide open space filled with book stacks, desks and a computer section.

The children's section, located inside the former garage bay, is decorated in a woodlands theme. A colorful mural of a forest is brought to life by bookshelves with animals cutouts and its own computer section.
