Longtime Commack residents Erica and Frank Amato are serving up slices at Amato's Pizza in the Hauppauge Shopping Center off Route 347. The pair is glad to finally be back behind the pizza counter.

Camera shops are a rare species on Long Island, and they are one step closer to becoming extinct with the closing of Split Image Photography on Main Street.

“Photography just grew so much that everyone has cameras and the only people buying cameras are those that never had a camera in the first place,” said Doug Crown, owner of Split Image. “That’s not enough to sustain the whole market.”

Residents Say Suffolk Needs a Disaster Plan

The answer from residents at a public hearing held by the County Legislature Thursday was clearly yes. Legislators gathered at the William H. Rogers Legislative Building in Smithtown to obtain feedback from residents on how to better handle a major event such as the recent superstorm.

Afternoon Nesconset Accident Briefly Halts Traffic

A car accident brought traffic to a standstill Friday afternoon in Nesconset.

According to Suffolk County Police, officers responded to a call of an accident at 11:46 a.m. at the intersection of Route 347 and Lake Avenue in Nesconset involving two cars. The make and model of the cars has not been released.
