Route 347 Sound Wall Presentation Online for Residents

Area residents can educate themselves about the potential impact that installing a sound wall would have on Route 347 and its surrounding communities. 

New York State Department of Transportation has uploaded its Community Sound Wall Presentation online to the Route 347 project page where residents can watch the presentation offered Sept. 6 from their own homes. 

A woman on the FBI's most wanted list for allegedly kidnapping her daugher has turned herself into authorities and returned the girl to her father in Hauppauge.

New York Daily News reports that Yvette Torres 49, accused of kidnapping her 2-year-old daughter more than 12 years ago, turned herself in on Sept. 5. The teen was reunited with her father David Beck IV of Hauppauge, according to an FBI spokeswoman. 

Tropical Smoothie Café Opens on Main Street

The Smithtown food landscape has grown with the Saturday opening of Tropical Smoothie Café.

The eatery, located at 32 East Main Street near Mannino's Pizzeria & Restuarant and Baja Grill, is solely owned and operated by Stony Brook resident Dana Bush. Bush also owns another Tropical Smoothie Café location in Port Jefferson Station, which she opened roughly a year and a half ago.  

“My husband and I have been throwing around the idea of different franchises for a couple of years, never did anything serious about it, it started to look a little bit soft,” she said. “When I went into one of these I saw a franchise for sure, it seemed like the right fit.”

Islandia Woman Killed in Motorcycle Crash

An Islandia woman has been identified as the person killed Saturday when a motorcycle hit the car she was riding in Saturday afternoon.. 

Newsday reports Mary Andrea Ryan, 41, of Islandia was a backseat passanger in 1998 Nissan Altima hit by a motorcycle late Saturday afternoon. Ryan was taken to Southside Hospital, where she later died. 

Other passangers in the vehicle were not injured.
