Week in Review: Pedestrian-Bike Lane for Route 347, Recycling Scheme

After expanding Route 347/Nesconset Highway into three vehicular travel lanes in each direction, New York State Department of Transportation has started installing a separate bike-and-pedestrian lane on the roadway's south side.

The Town of Smithtown was robbed of more than $200,000 by a trio operating a recycling scheme in town for more than two years, officials said, and that amount is likely to increase.

Smithtown Town Supervisor Patrick Vecchio said town officials are angered by the alleged recycling scheme that stole more than $200,000 from its coffers, but applaud the town employees and policies that uncovered it. 


A woman has been charged with driving while intoxicated at 100 miles per hour or more through Islandia on the Long Island Expressway early Thursday morning.
