Week In Review: Residents Vote on Route 347 Changes, Tutti Frutti Opens

Hauppauge and Smithtown homeowners have been given the opportunity to educate themselves on the Route 347 greenway project before casting their votes on its future construction.  

New York State Department of Transportation will be holding an information meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 for roughly 90 homeowners whose lives will be directly impacted by the next phase of Route 347 construction, from Route 111/Wheeler Road east to Mount Pleasant Road.

A second frozen yogurt shop has opened its doors in Hauppauge this summer, further fueling the frozen treats trend. 

Tutti Frutti, an international frozen yogurt chain, held the grand opening of its Hauppauge location in the Motor Parkway Plaza off Exit 55 over Labor Day weekend. The brightly colored storefront near the Hauppauge Industrial Park attracted families and business employees alike.

Following the exposure of an  where cardboard and paper were exchanged for under-the-counter cash payments, the Town of Smithtown is seeking to terminate its contract with Jody Enterprises and press charges against the company.

The town is also set to take legal action against its surety, Platte River Insurance Company. 


While originally set for a mid August opening, the sign at the soon-to-be Kelli's Grille in Nesconset has just made its way to the building's facade. A message on the eatery'sFacebook page said it should be open by mid September.

While construction continues at the soon-to-be home of LA Fitness on Smithtown's Main Street, the gym has opened a preview center on Route 111 in the same shopping center as .
