Residents Approve Sound Walls for Route 347 Stretch
The votes are in and counted. Hauppauge and Smithtown residents want sound wall barriers built along Route 347 as the highway expands to six lanes. 

New York State Department of Transportation has issued plans to construct sound barrier walls along both sides of Route 347 as part of its Safety and Mobility Improvements at the request of local residents.

Police Pursuit of Allegedly Armed Burglar Ends in Crash
Police pursuit of an allegedly armed burglar ended in a crash on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 53 that snarled Wednesday morning's rush-hour traffic.  

Smithtown Continues to Flight Blight
The Town of Smithtown has taken further steps towards cleaning and ridding the town of blighted properties by targeting three specific homes in Smithtown and Kings Park for cleanup on recent town board agendas.

The process of addressing the town’s blighted properties began in June of last year with town councilmen Robert Creighton, Kevin Malloy and Edward Wehrheim forming a master list of 19 properties considered blighted in the town. 

 Potential 65 Percent Islip Town Tax Hike Fires Up ResidentsThe Islip Town Board got an earful Tuesday from residents who are not too pleased with a preliminary 2013 budget proposal that would raise Town taxes by 65 percent–or $225 a year for the average homeowner. 

"We are on a budget and if we have to incur a tax increase, I want to know what do I do? Where do I turn?" asked Arlene Farina, of Central Islip, during an oftentimes heated two-hour public hearing at Town Hall. 

Nesconset 5K Walk/Run Rescheduled for NovemberNesconset residents have another month to train and raise funds for the community's fund raising 5K walk/run. 

Nesconset Chamber of Commerce has rescheduled its annual 5K Walk/Run originally set for this Saturday, Oct. 14 to Nov. 11 due to a unforeseeable scheduling conflict, according to organizers.
