Update, 1 p.m.: LIPA is now reporting 553 customers are without power in Smithtown and 30 are without in Hauppauge.
Original Story: Severe weather overnight knocked out power to much of Long Island, with the Hauppauge seeing the highest amount of outages in Smithtown.
The Long Island Power Authority reports 1,608 customers were without power townwide as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday, with 1,203 of those outages in Hauppuage. More than 15,000 customers are without power throughout Suffolk County.
The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph, which could bring down tree limbs or whole trees.
A high wind warning is in effect for Suffolk County through 9 a.m. Thursday.
