Blink Fitness Opens in Islandia

New gym offers sleek design, inexpensive membership fees.

A sleekly designed gym recently opened in Islandia giving residents another choice in keeping fit for the New Year.

Blink Fitness, which grand opened this past weekend, boasts much of the traditional gear you would see at a gym such as 100 pieces of cardio equipment, 50 strength machines, free weights, locker rooms and showers, but it has a few amenities you may not. 

In addition locker rooms, Blink offers convenient stash lockers near the entrance for members who head straight to the gym floor and vending machines with towels, water bottles or even iPod ear buds. Sixty-percent of the cardio equipment is self-powered, televisions are Energy Star rated, and lighting is low demand florescent.

The club bills itself as an “inexpensive, fast and convenient fitness center”.

“Blink is an affordable gym that doesn’t look or feel cheap,” said Dos Condon, Vice President of Blink, in a statement. The club is part of the Equinox group of fitness centers.

Their are fitness experts on hand as well as personal training available. Basic memberships start at $15 per month.

Other unique features of the club are its HUMAN Healthy Vending vending machines that give 10-percent of proceeds back to charitable causes dedicated to fighting obesity and malnutrition. Members can also hang on the club’s “Front Porch” a lounge where patrons can recoup and meet friends.

They gym is located in the Walmart shopping center in Islandia.
