Hauppauge students and administrators banded together for a community fundraiser recently in honor of former student and soccer player, Courtney Tomkin, who died of bran cancer in 2008.
The Kicks for Cancer campaign raised $30,000 through community donations, raffles and clothing sales held by the school. Proceeds will be donated to charities including the American Lung Association, Make-a-Wish Foundation, theh American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, the Making Headway Foundation and the Courtney Tomkin Scholarship.
“Kicks for Cancer is about honoring those who are fighting cancer and remembering those who have lost the battle,” said Jessica Kulesa, girls varsity coach and event coordinator.
“It always is very special to watch the Hauppauge community join together to support one another and the memory of Courtney Tomkin and all those who bravely fight against cancer.”
