New Therapy Center Tackles Injuries From All Angles

Long Island Chiropractic and Physical Therapy has stacked its practice with a multi-faceted approach.

In an effort to attack physical injuries from all angles, a new physical therapy office has stacked its practice with a multi-faceted approach that pairs chiropractic treatment alongside physical therapy while offering sport rehabilitation in its mix.

Long Island Chiropractic and Physical Therapy opened in Oct. of 2012 in Smithtown and is providing residents with an array of therapy choices all under one roof. The office describes its approach as multi-disciplinary, combining physical therapy, chiropractic, massage therapy and trigger point therapy to help ease patients ailments.

“We do it all," said chiropractor Donald Wallace. “We all work together. We share the same philosophy," he said of the three doctors on staff.

Sports Rehabilitation specialist, Christopher Grabowski, who is part of the trio behind the center, said the key is to prevent injuries.

“Staying healthy is a big factor,” he said.

The office practices techniques seen in few places on Long Island, including Active Release Technique, which was used on athletes at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.  Kinesiotaping, also used at the Olympics, where a flexible tape is applied to provide stability to muscles and joints without restricting range of motion, is offered by the office as well.

Staff chiropractor, Gerard Smith said he often uses his own experience as an athlete who wants to still compete, when making treatment plans for his patients. Smith, of Nesconset, played volleyball in the Empire State Games and is an active tri-athlete.

“We want to give people what the best athletes in the world are getting,” said Wallace.

Long Island Chiropractic and Physical Therapy is located at 20 Gilbert Avenue, Suite 201, Smithtown.
