French Fries Are Not on the Food Pyramid

After all the fads and fasts, seeking a true professionals advice. Time to get serious!

Nutrition is a constant thought on every one’s mind these days. Between eating right, the new fad diet, and when it’s acceptable to cheat - it's hard for a second not to pass without food on the brain.

Extremists will freak out over the calorie count, some more nonchalant people (i.e. including myself) wonder how many minutes on the treadmill will be suffered, and the last few, just don’t give a damn. However, whether you like it or not, the current health epidemic in America should push anyone to rethink their meal choice. The biggest problem with Americans is relating their health to their weight. If you 110 pounds and 5’8”, shoving a daily cheeseburger still messes with your body.

It’s not uncommon for people to be confused about the best way to eat. There are many words of wisdom from friends or family, books selling the latest diet, Internet sites boasting all sorts of facts, and other information floating out there saying, “Eat this way and you’ll age gracefully!” or “Eat this way and you’ll lose 50 pounds by next month!” It’s no wonder people have difficulty making sense of it all. Of course, there are many things that go into a healthy eating plan, but it’s not as hard as it might seem. The best way to figure out what will work for you and your body is to visit a nutritionist.

Fortunate for Long Islanders, Dr. William Romero is a top-rated, board certified nutrition specialist, according to his website. In fact, his title is a physician-nutritionist, a title few people can be honored with. Romero became Board Certified in 1990 by the American Board of Bariatric Medicine. In addition to being one of the few diet doctors honored with a Diplomate of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine, Dr. Romero states on his website he is the only board-certified bariatrician on Long Island.

I decided the other day that it would be a good idea after my friend recommeded him and I checked out the website. I have my first appointment and I'm both nervous and excited. Excited because it'll be good to start off my new year (yeah, I make those resolutions) with real knowledge. Nervous because I know my days of Taco Bell at 3 a.m. are definitely over, and I can forget about those bags of chips from the vending machine. Let's see how long this last. I'll get back to you with details.
