Email Scam

I’ve received quite a few emails in regards to the following: “The Wire transfer , recently sent from your bank account , was not processed by the FedWire. Transfer details attached to the letter. This service is provided to you by the Federal Reserve Board. Visit us on the web at our website To report this message as spam, offensive, or if you feel you have received this in error, please send e-mail to email address including the entire contents and subject of the message. It will be reviewed by staff and acted upon appropriately “ What makes this somewhat interesting is the senders email address, which appears to be legit with a .gov domain (Federal Reserve" alerts@federalreserve.gov). However, as I was reminded by a member, The Fed is not a Gov't agency. DO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK Some are concerned that their accounts are compromised. From what I can see this email has been circulating since 2011. It seems to be making a comeback locally. The email contains a link to click on like this: PAYMENT RECEIPT 29-04-2013-GBK-75.zip (401) Clicking on the link installs a trojan horse or virus. So far I am not aware of anyone who has been compromised by this, but just be aware it’s going around. -James Semon - The Perfect Neighborhood Watch
