127 National Grid Customers Without Gas After Accident

National Grid working to patch gas main, hopes to restore service to local residents by this evening.

National Grid is reporting 127 residential and commercial customers are without service after a on Route 347 in Hauppauge.

Wendy Ladd, a spokeswoman for National Grid, said the company turned off the gas main to conserve the natural resource and ensure crews can safely make repairs this afternoon.

The residential customers affected live in the Hauppauge area, near the Route 347/Veterans Highway interchange in Hauppauge and Smithtown.

"We will have to go house to house to relight each customer," Ladd said. "It should go smoothly as long as people are at home."

National Grid workers will have to go in and relight the pilot light on customers' furnace, hot water heaters and other appliances.
