6 Trucks Taken Off Roadways for Safety Violations

Law officials hand out 54 summonses, 7 New York State tax violations and take 6 trucks off roadway at overnight checkpoint off Exit 53.

Law enforcement officials handed out more than 50 summonses and took 6 cargo tankers off roadways for safety violations at a commercial trucking checkpoint off the Long Island Expressway's Exit 53 on Tuesday night. 

Suffolk County police reported its Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Safety section worked together with New York State Department of Taxation and state Environmental Conservational police to hold an overnight commercial trucking sting at the park-and-ride off Wick's Road. Officials pulled over and inspected 19 trucks between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 3 a.m. Wednesday. 

Law officials issued 45 summonses and took six cargo tankers off of the roadway for safety violations. In addition, nine summonses were issued to trucks which violated state environmental laws.

There were also seven citations for violation of state tax laws. 

Suffolk police said, "the inter-agency enforcement initiative was held to ensure compliance with commercial motor vehicle and hazardous material safety regulations and with NYS tax laws, and to address environmental safety issues associated with fuel tanker trucks."
