Car Crash Closes Two Lanes on Route 347/Veterans Highway

A single-car crash closed two lanes of Route 347/Veterans Highway in Hauppauge during rush hour Wednesday afternoon.

Suffolk County police said a green SUV heading eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway went off the roadway into a bank of trees at approximately 3:47 p.m. at the Route 347/Vets Highway and county road access intersection. First responders had to extricate the driver from the vehicle, according to early reports.

Two eastbound lanes of Route 347/Veterans Memorial Highway were closed for nearly one hour as rescue crews worked to free the driver. Hauppauge Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident.

Heavy rains throughout Wednesday left local roadways wet and slick with fall leaves, but police would not comment on whether this may have played a part in the accident.

It is unknown whether there were any injuries at this time.
