UPDATE: Single-Car Crash Temporarily Closes LIE HOV Lane

The HOV lane between exits 55 and 56 has re-opened.

UPDATE 11 a.m.: The eastbound HOV lane on the Long Island Expressway in Hauppauge was closed Friday morning due to a single-car accident. 

According to police, a 25 year old Freeport woman driving a 2004 Toyota Solara was driving eastbound in the center lane at 7:11 a.m. when a car in another lane attempted to get into her lane, forcing her to lose control of the vehicle. The front of her car then hit the center median, spun around, and the back of the car hit the median again, police said.

Police said the woman was then brought to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore to be evaluated.

Original Story: Suffolk County Police are at the scene of a car accident on the Long Island Expressway in Hauppauge that has a portion of the HOV lane closed.

According to police, an accident occurred at 7:11 a.m. Friday on the eastbound side of the LIE. The accident has the HOV lane closed from exits 55 to 56.

No details on how many cars were involved or possible injuries have been reported.
