Copper Wire Stolen From Con Edison

Suffolk County police report the utility company's storage units were broken into by thieves.

Suffolk County police reported that supplies were stolen from Con Edison's Hauppauge site on Dec. 29. 

Police said an unidentified person broke into one of the utility company's cargo area breaking open the door. The thief is suspected to have broken the door open using a pry bar, according to police. 

The robber stole approximately 300 feet of copper cable from the cargo area. Police would not estimate the value of the copper cable.

This is not the first time that thieves have stolen copper wiring or cable from a Hauppauge business within recent months. 

In October, Suffolk county police reported a thief broke into Rodale Electronics on Oser Avenue in the Hauppauge Industrial Park. The burglar stole two large rolls of copper wire from the building valued at $1,000, according to police reports. 

Also, there were similar burglaries reported in Kings Park where copper wire being stolen from a residential building and a man was arrested for allegedly taking copper piping from a Smithtown building in August..
