Suffolk County Police have arrested a Westbury man for reportedly getting behind the wheel while drunk, .
Jose Escobar, 29, was arrested at Stony Brook University Hospital Thursday night and charged him with driving while intoxicated following an accident at the 7-Eleven of Motor Parkway in Brentwood.
Suffolk County police said Escobar was driving a 2003 Nissan westbound on Expressway Drive North when he attempted to exit onto Motor Parkway at 8 p.m. He failed to negotiate the turn and hit into the median. The car became airborne, crashing into the back of the 7-Eleven on the corner of Motor Parkway and Wicks Road.
Escobar's 10-month-old daughter, Helen Escobar, was seriously injured in the crash. She was transported to Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York in New Hyde Park.
His pregnant girlfriend Maria Guillen, 27, of Westbury, received serious injuries and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.
Escobar was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.
