Crime Report: Armed Robbery on Vets Highway, DWI

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Suffolk County Police Department's  reported these arrests and incidents in Hauppauge during Dec. 7 to Dec. 13. 

Anthony Cook, 25, of Hauppauge, was arrested Dec. 13 in Nesconset and charged with first offense DWI. Police said Cook was driving a 2005 Kia on Old Nichols Road at 2:20 a.m. when he was stopped by police, who determined him to be under the influence of alcohol.

Daniel Hunter, 20, of Coram, was arrested Dec. 13 in Nesconset and charged with possession of burglary tools. Hunter was arrested on South Hillside Avenue with a backpack containing a flashlight, screwdriver, boxcutter and gloves, according to police reports.

Gerard Gutman, 20, of Patchogue, was arrested Dec. 13 in Islandia and charged with petty larceny. Gutman is accused of leaving Walmart with electronic merchandise concealed beneath his clothing. 

Selvin Watts, 28, of Long Island City, was arrested Dec. 12 in Hauppauge and charged with first-degree robbery, assault and unlawful imprisonment. Police said Watts and Michael Richards, 21, of no known address, allegedly stole cash from apartment 1F at 666 Veterans Highway in Hauppauge. The two men threatened a person with a handgun, and that Richards restrained the person while they were burned with a hot knife, according to police. The person was taken to the hospital.

Michael Elliot, 21, of Hauppauge, was arrested Dec. 12 in Hauppauge and charged with fifth-degree possession of stolen property. Stolen street signs were found during a search of Elliot's home, according to police reports.

Michael Barbaretti, 40, of Patchogue was arrested Dec. 12 in Hauppauge and charged with first-degree robbery and petty larceny for an incident that took place Sep. 21 at 10:20 a.m., during which Barbaretti is accused of stealing money from another person.

Nesconset residents John Chiarella, 33;  John Kurczewski, Jr. 24; Michael Kurczewski, 22; and Shawn Allen, 20, of Bayshore, were arrested Dec. 7 in Nesconset and charged with seventh- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police said the four men were seated in a 1996 Saturn on Brooks Avenue in which police found prescription pills.

Ramon Rodriguez Acevedo, 24, no address given, was arrested Dec. 7 in Hauppauge and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Acevedo was a passenger in the rear of a vehicle which he fled, leaving a black cane sword, according to police reports.
