Crime Report: Empty Box Swapped for TV at Islandia BJs

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Suffolk County Police Department's reported these arrests and incidents in Hauppauge during Feb. 6 to Feb. 11.

Robert White Jr., 18, of Islandia, was arrested Feb. 10 and charged with petty larceny. Police said White attempted to steal merchandise from Sears in Smith Haven Mall.

Dani Assaly, 25, of West Islip, was arrested Feb. 9 and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. Police said Assaly was seen driving a 2005 Land Rover west on Expressway Drive North and smoking marijuana.

Stacia Torelli, 21, of Hauppauge, was arrested Feb. 8 and charged with third-degree grand larceny. Police alleged that Torelli stole iPhones from RadioShack.

Robert Byheny Jr., 64, of Deer Park, was arrested Feb. 7 and charged with driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction in 10 years and fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana in public. Byheny attempted to turn onto Motor Parkway while driving a 1987 Oldsmobile, but failed to yield to a car already on the road nearly causing a collision, according to police.

Michael Pavone, 30, of Nesconset, was arrested Feb. 7 and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana in public. Police said Pavone was seen sitting in the driver's seat of a 2011 Honda smoking marijuana near the Lake Ave and Excalibur Lane intersection.

Anisa Escobar, 41, of Mt. Sinai, was arrested in Smithtown Feb. 6 and charged with petty larceny. Escobar allegedly stole a television from in Setauket, brought the empty box to the BJs in Islandia, switched it on the shelf for a new television and returned it for a full refund.
