Crimes Nearby: Armed Robbery at Chase Bank in Setauket

Suffolk County police reported the following information:

Commack

Umberto Correia, 38, East Northport, was arrested Sunday in Commack and charged with driving while intoxicated, despite a state trooper advising him not to drive, police said. Correia was observed driving a Jeep northbound on Crooked Hill Road, police said. He was pulled over for drifting out of his lane and exhibited poor coordination and slurred speech, police said.

Bryan Doyle, 27, of Stony Brook, was arrested Feb. 4 in Commack and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon with previous conviction and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. According to police, Doyle was arrested at approximately 1:10 p.m. at the Mayfair Shopping Center on Route 25. Doyle was allegedly arrested on a bench warrant and allegedly had a switchblade on him at the time of the arrest. When he was brought to the precinct, police said they also found the alleged controlled substance in his possession.

On the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 18, a woman returning to her car from in the Commack Corners Shopping Center discovered that her car window had been smashed and that her tote bag containing her wallet and three credit cards had been stolen, according to Suffolk County police. The suspect, described by police as 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 180 lbs., used the stolen cards to make purchases at two Brentwood gas stations.

Smithtown

Thomas Dowd, 20, of Holtsville; Shawn Omack, 20, of Ronkonkoma; and Anthony Distasi, 21, of Holbrook, were arrested on Feb. 5 in Smithtown on charges of second-degree robbery, second-degree physical injury/displaying a firearm and third-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury. Police said the three allegedly chased a man, threw him to the ground, stole his backpack and kicked and punched him numerous times, causing a laceration to the head that required stitches at Stony Brook University Medical Center at 2:05 a.m.

Christopher Papile, of Miller Place, was arrested in Nissequogue around 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 6 on charges of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon/firearm and fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Papile allegedly possessed a knife and marijuana in a backpack in a 2002 Ford at River Road and Parsins Lane.

Three Village

A police investigation is underway in the Wednesday robbery of the bank on Main Street in Setauket.
According to police, a white man described as 5-feet 9-inches tall and between 20 and 30 years old, entered the branch located at 1395 Route 25A at 11:10 a.m. and showed a teller a note demanding cash, also stating he was armed with a weapon. Police said the teller gave the man cash, then the man left the bank on foot south through the parking lot behind the bank.
Police said the suspect was wearing a beige hooded jacket with the hood up, jeans and sneakers, with a red and green scarf covering his face, sunglasses and black gloves.
Suffolk County Police’s Major Case Investigations Unit is currently investigating the robbery.

David Decosta, 45, of Setauket, was arrested Feb. 10 at the North County Road complex in Hauppauge and charged with grand larceny with proceeds greater than $50,000. According to police, Decosta allegedly stole money intentionally between Dec. 1, 2009 and Feb. 28, 2011 from Decosta Contracting LLC in Holbrook.

Port Jefferson

Noel McPhail, 23, of Port Jefferson Station, was arrested on Crystal Brook Hollow Road in Port Jefferson Station on Feb. 7 at 11:10 a.m. and charged with criminal possession of controlled substance and false personation for reportedly giving a fake name. McPhail also had an outstanding bench warrant.

Mollie Gibson, 18, of Port Jefferson, was arrested in Port Jefferson on Feb. 5 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Gibson allegedly hit another vehicle in the parking lot of Planet Fitness on Route 25A in Rocky Point and left.
