Crimes Nearby: Artwork Stolen, IHOP Diners Robbed at Knifepoint

The following information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Commack

Daniel Sinkin, 23, of Commack, was arrested Sept. 10 on Ronkonkoma Avenue in Lake Ronkonkoma and charged with loitering, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use of a controlled substance.

James Kosin, 42, of North Patchogue, was arrested Sept. 15 and charged with three counts of robbery. Kosin allegedly robbed the TCBY in Commack on Sept, 11 as well as three banks in nearby towns.

Eric Petito, 24, of Commack, was arrested Sept. 15 in Commack and charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. Petito was observed at 1 a.m. driving a 2005 Jeep on Elder Drive.

Jeffrey Francis, 21, of Medford, and Travis Towler, 23, of Brooklyn were arrested Sept. 16 and charged with the first-degree robbery of a 7-Eleven in Commack on Sept. 10. The pair was also charged with several attempted robberies in other towns.

Sachem

Suffolk County Police are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Holbrook Saturday morning.

Jose Santos was driving a 2008 Nissan west on Veterans Memorial Highway when he struck a pedestrian, Patrick McCourt, who was walking in the roadway at 5:30 a.m. McCort was then struck by a 2001 Ford, driven by Mehmet Altun, police said.

According to police, McCourt, 22, of Huntington, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Smithtown

Roy Beardsley, Jr., 37, of Lindenhurst was arrested Sept. 8 in Smithtown and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief. Reports indicate Beardsley was arrested for allegedly grabbing a cell phone, preventing a female from dialing 911.

Crystal Condos, 19, of Fort Salonga was arrested Sept. 12 in Smithtown and charged with first-degree operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Reports indicate Condos was arrested for the alleged heroin possession while operating a vehicle on Route 111, Smithtown at approximately 1:13 a.m.

Three Village

Police are investigating an incident of criminal mischief in which an unknown person damaged the green at St. George's Golf Club in Stony Brook by driving onto it. According to a police report, the incident occurred sometime between Sept. 14 at 9 p.m. and Sept. 15 at 7 a.m. The cost of the damages is unknown. Board members of St. George's Golf Club could not be reached for comment.

Two artists returned to their tents at Gallery North's outdoor art show in Setauket on the morning of Sept. 11 to find multiple works of art missing, according to police. According to reports, five paintings by artist Maggie Shively and eight etchings and oils by artist Karen Kemp were stolen sometime between the time they closed up shop on Saturday evening and the time they returned Sunday morning. Police are investigating the incident as petty larceny.

Daniel Trezza, 23, of Farmingville, was arrested Sept. 9 in Stony Brook and charged with misconduct. Reports indicate Trezza allegedly took his brother's shotgun without permission.

Port Jefferson

Police say a man wearing a bandana over his face and wielding a chef's knife robbed four people of cash while they were eating at the located on Route 112 in Port Jefferson Sunday morning at about 7:30 a.m.
The thief, described as white, in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall, between 180 and 200 pounds and wearing dark clothing then fled on foot.
According to police, the four people robbed were the only ones eating in the restaurant at the time. The thief also made no attempt to steal money from the store's cash register.

Rafael Gonzalez, 53, of Port Jefferson Station was arrested Sept. 8 in Port Jefferson Station and charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon. Gonzalez was arrested for the alleged threat with a steak knife to another male on Route 112, Port Jefferson Station.
