Crimes Nearby: Bank Robbery, Drunk Driver Hits Cop Car

A recent report of police activity in the local area including Sachem, Smithtown, Commack, Kings Park, Three Village and Port Jefferson.

The following information is taken from area police department's crime blotter. Arrests do not indicate convictions. A criminal charge is only an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Smithtown

Victor Vitale, 59, of Kings Park was arrested July 20 in Smithtown and charged with prohibited use of a weapon. Reports indicate Vitale was arrested for alleged discharged of a double gauge barrel shotgun with people nearby. The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Old Northport Road.

Sachem

Chris Nilsen, 52, of Central Islip was arrested Aug. 1 in Central Islip on charges of third-degree robbery. Police said Nilsen robbed a TD Bank branch in Lake Grove, but a passing motorist caught his description as he fled the scene. When officers recognized Nilsen at a 7-11 in Islandia, he led police on a chase through Islandia into Central Islip, according to reports. For more on the incident, read

Commack

Russell Schaefer, 28, of Mount Sinai was arrested July 28 and charged with DWI. Schaefer was driving a pickup truck eastbound on Jericho Turnpike near Commack Road at about 9:52 p.m. when he struck a Second Precinct patrol car, Suffolk police said. The police officer, whose named was not released, was treated for minor injuries at Huntington Hospital.

Kings Park

Michael Grusel, 26, of Kings Park was arrested July 17 in Kings Park and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Reports state Grusel was arrested for the alleged possession of marijuana in a municipal parking lot located in Kings Park at approximately 8:35 p.m. Reports also indicate he allegedly struggled with police when officers arrived.

Three Village

A seventeen-year-old boy from Lake Grove was arrested July 26 in Stony Brook and charged with second-degree criminal contempt. Reports indicate the youth allegedly violated an order of protection and pulled a phone jack from a wall.

Port Jefferson

Luo Lingli, 40, of Flushing was arrested July 20 in Port Jefferson Station and charged with unauthorized practice of profession. Lingli was arrested for the alleged practice of massage therapy without a license.

Calvin Johnson, 22, of Port Jefferson Station was arrested July 23 in Port Jefferson Station and charged with assault. Johnson was arrested for allegedly injuring another man with a knife in the chest and rib area. Johnson was reported to have allegedly hit two other males in the head. The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Lincoln Ave.
