Crimes Nearby: Computers with Child Pornography in Setauket

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Suffolk County police reported the following arrests.

Three Village

• Suffolk police arrested a Setauket man on Monday whom they said owned computers containing child pornography. Philip Nicolopoulos, 48, is charged with two counts of possession of a sexual performance by a child, a felony. Police said he lives on Branch Lane, a block approximately half a mile from Arrowhead Elementary School in East Setauket. Computer crimes detectives executed a search warrant at his home on Friday, allegedly discovering a computer and external hard drives containing pornographic videos of children. Nicolopoulos turned himself in to police at the Sixth Precinct in Selden on Monday.



An employee of Radio Shack was arrested last Wednesday for stealing cell phones.

Police said Carlos Argueta, 23, of Brentwood stole cell phones from the Radio Shack in Commack, by opening up multiple fraudulent accounts and then kept the accompanying free cell phone.

Police charged Argueta with felony third-degree grand larceny. According to court records, Argueta appeared at First District Court where bail was set at $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash. Records show Argueta was unable to make bail.



• A 17-year-old Smithtown boy was arrested on Jan. 28 in Smithtown on a second-degree aggravated harassment charge, a misdemeanor. Reports state the boy texted threats to another man from his cellphone. 


Miller Place-Rocky Point

• Suffolk County police are looking for a man and woman they said stole a purse from a car parked in Port Jefferson Station and used a credit card to make unauthorized purchases around the Mt. Sinai area.

According to police, on New Year's Day a woman reported having her purse stolen, but by the time she had contacted her bank, several purchases had already been made. One of the locations where items were bought was at a Mobil Station on Route 25A in Mt. Sinai.

Police identified the suspects as a white male, and a white female, both in their 20s.

• Richard Arpen, 28, of Rocky Point, was arrested Feb. 1 in Riverhead and charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property with a value greater than $3,000, a felony. Arpen was found to be in possession of a stolen vehicle in Holbrook and was arrested at the police station in Riverhead, according to police.


Port Jefferson

• Police reported that the offering box in Infant Jesus Chapel at St. Charles Hospital had been pried open by an unknown person on Jan. 30, sometime before 3:20 p.m. No money was taken.

• Wendell Gerald, 55, of Port Jefferson, was arrested at his home on Jan. 27 and charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor. On Jan. 10 at about 2:20 p.m., Gerald allegedly stole a jacket from Something For Everyone Thrift Shop in Port Jefferson Station.
