Crimes Nearby: Rape, People's United Bank and 7-Eleven Robberies

A recent report of police activity in the local area including Sachem, Smithtown, Commack, Kings Park, Three Village and Port Jefferson.

The following information is taken from area police department's crime blotter. Arrests do not indicate convictions. A criminal charge is only an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Smithtown

Michael Frank, 19, of Smithtown was arrested Aug. 9 in Smithtown and charged with resisting arrest, third-degree burglary, and three counts of third-degree criminal mischief. Reports state Frank was arrested after he allegedly kicked the windshield of a 1999 Jeep in the North County Complex at approximately 2 p.m.

Jessica Alagna, 26, of Amityville was arrested Aug. 8 in Smithtown and charged with third-degree criminal mischief. Police reports state Alagna was arrested after she allegedly keyed a 2008 Honda Pilot on Nesconset Highway in Hauppauge at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Sachem

A man robbed People’s United Bank on Middle Country Road in Lake Grove on Aug. 13. Police said a man entered People’s United Bank at 2921 Middle Country Road, at 10:25 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding cash. The teller complied with the robber’s demands and gave him cash from the drawer and a red dye pack, according to police. The dye pack exploded as the man left the bank. He was seen entering a gray four-door sedan, driven by a female, and together fled west on Middle Country Road.

Commack

A man robbed the located at 6230 Jericho Turnpike at 4:51 a.m. on Aug. 8. Police said the man displayed a revolver handgun and demanded cash from the cashier. The cashier complied, handed the assailant an unspecified amount of cash, and the thief fled. No injuries were reported.

Kings Park

Luis Sanchez, 23 of Kings Park was arrested on Aug. 9 for sexually assaulting a woman in Kings Park. Police Sanchez with rape in the first degree and two counts of a criminal sexual act.

Three Village

Nina Estick, 43, of Rocky Point, was arrested Aug. 11 on Trustees Road in Setauket and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle without owner consent. According to police, Estick was allegedly found driving a 1999 Pontiac that did not belong to her.

Christine Baltieri,
42, of Stony Brook, was arrested Aug. 1 on Route 25 in Centereach and charged with second-degree harassment. According to police, Baltieri allegedly threatened to choke the driver of the taxi in which she was a passenger.

Port Jefferson

James Pritchard, 30, of Coram was arrested Aug. 3 in Port Jefferson and charged with second-degree criminal impersonation. Pritchard allegedly caused a disturbance and impersonated a narcotics detective at a bar and grill in Port Jefferson. The incident occurred at approximately 3:44 a.m east of Main St.

Jose Vargas,
25, of Port Jefferson was arrested Aug. 6 in Port Jefferson and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Reports state Vargas was stopped by two Port Jefferson town constables for suspected drug dealing. The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. at 242 Traders Cove, Port Jefferson.
