Crimes Nearby: St. James Man Targets Plane, Chopper with Lazer

Suffolk County police report on recent arrests and police activity in the towns neighboring Hauppauge.

The following information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Commack

Brian Parkin, 56, of Miller Place, was arrested Dec. 6 at the Fourth Precinct and charged with leaving the scene of property damage. Parkin was allegedly driving a 2005 Ford on Nov. 11 when his vehicle struck a 2002 Mercedes-Benz in a Commack 7-Eleven parking lot, causing damage to the driver's side. He allegedly fled without exchanging information.

Errol Onfroy, 51, of Springfield Gardens, and Craig Brown, 37, of Brooklyn, were arrested Dec. 6 in Commack and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. They are accused of using a forged credit card at the  on Crooked Hill Road.

Carolyn Bradley, 21, of Commack, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated at Delaware Ave. in Long Beach on Dec. 2.

Morris Wine, 54, of Commack, was arrested Dec. 5 in Hauppauge and charged with third-degree grand larceny. He is accused of engaging in a scheme to obtain mortgage loan proceeds using falsified documents from Wells Fargo between 2007 and 2008.

Walter Hasim, 33, of Commack, was arrested Dec. 5 and charged with second degree aggravated harrassment. Hasim is accused of sending numerous unwanted text messages to a female victim.

Sachem

Police arrested Kamil Duda, 34, of Farmingville, on Dec. 9 for speeding over 100 mph on the Long Island Expressway, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff's office. Duda was driving 2004 Mercedes eastbound at Exit 58 of the Long Island Expressway, according to police reports.

Duda was traveling at 110 mph, striking another vehicle in the center lane, police said. He was arrested at the scene and a subsequent breath test revealed a BAC of .17.  He faces multiple charges and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip, according to the sheriff's office.

Smithtown

Suffolk police arrested David Smith, 21, of St. James, man after they say he pointed a green laser at an airplane and the ensuing police helicopter sent out to determine the laser's location. Smith was charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and may face future charges from the New York Port Authority and New Jersey Terrorism Task Force.

Police said the Federal Aviation Administration notified SCPD that an aircraft had been targeted around 9:55 p.m. by a green laser pointer on the ground. While a responding helicopter approached the airspace where the alleged initial incident occurred, police said the helicopter was also targeted by the laser.

Using units on the ground in the Fourth Precinct and Community Oriented Police Enforcement, Smith's residence on King Arthur's Court was determined to be the location, they said. He was arrested less than an hour after the FAA contacted SCPD.

Port Jefferson

Anthony Rivera, 21, of Port Jefferson Station, was arrested Dec. 2 at about 12:33 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was at Silk Ultra Lounge where he was allegedly screaming obscenities, leading to the disorderly conduct. During a search related to that arrest the police found marijuana.

A 17-year-old minor, of Port Jefferson Station, was arrested Dec. 4 at about 9:50 a.m. and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. She acted with others at Comsewogue High School and took credit cards from another locker.

Santo Calvado, 46, an undomiciled man, was arrested Dec. 6 in the 7-Eleven parking lot on Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station and charged with disorderly conduct. He was allegedly intoxicated and holding an open container while actively fighting with another man.
